This initiative serves to highlight the emotional, environmental, and health effects of excess light pollution in Johnstown. In partnership with Dark Sky International Advocates, we bring attention to this. Our club is dedicated to making a real difference and providing real solutions. Through participation in local government and by utilizing engineering design skills, we will present and implement a sustainable alternative to inefficient streetlighting.

At our community libraries we offer extra support in math, science, or other academic areas to students who need guidance. Payment is made on a strictly optional basis during a default event time. However, paid scheduling time is also offered with limited availability. We will create and distribute posters along with updating our website with information regarding available times to help. This serves as a source of support, community outreach, and further immersion into STEM.

The Science Society runs Regeneron Science Fairs every year, ranging from district to international competitions. Science fairs are a great opportunity for club members to learn valuable skills, including how to read science research papers, apply scientific reasoning, and work on science communication. Additionally, they can conduct research in a field that they show interest in. This activity will encompass extra meetings to provide support to members.
Every month we will create a presentation about a relevant scientist/engineer or concept to share with the club. These meetings will serve as the basis for community building and STEM interest. The topics will generally center around underrepresented scientists or controversial concepts at the cutting edge of STEM. The goal is for every member to learn something every meeting and to engage in polite disagreements.
The local observatory in Berthoud offers the ability to reserve nights to use their telescopes and observe stars. Additionally, they also offer public star nights where there is usually a guest lecturer. This is an opportunity for our club to bond and get to know local star enthusiasts.
